FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Capt. Mark Liberman
Fishing Unlimited
There seems to be a hint of spring in
the air! March has arrived with it's usual roar, but the second half of
January and the first half of February were quite and warm. The water temperature
has been in the mid to upper 60's most of the winter! The hard winds and
cooler weather this past week, has helped the red tide outbreak and
hopefully things will get back to normal soon!
I' v spent the past few weeks fishing
out of Naples and the Marco Island area and making some long runs to the south
looking for kingfish! I'm happy to report that there are plenty of kingfish in
the keys and a good number of fish making there way north into the Marco
Island area. It wont be long before they will be here!
There are several ways to catch
kingfish. But first you have to locate them! One of the best ways is to troll,
Because you can cover allot of water and do quick spot checks in your favorite
places. You can also find new places if you pay attention to your fish finder,
write the location of new ledges and hard bottom areas to come back and look
for Grouper and snapper! Once you locate the kingfish many fisherman
also fish with livebait with a light wire leader and light tackle. they offer
a very good fight and fantastic runs on that kind of gear! You can keep
two kingfish per person per day.
There has also been allot of Cobia
moving north as well, Large numbers have been caught from stump pass north to
the longboat pass area. With Venice and Sarasota being the hot spot this week.
They have been on rock piles and hard bottom areas along the coast within a
mile or so of the beach. Many anglers have been able to sight cast to the fish
with fly gear and artificials making for great fun! Cobia are always on the
move, so take the time to look for the next couple of months!
Get out and enjoy some
spring fishing. And remember "GOOD FISHING IS WHERE YOU FIND IT!"
